Ability To Decide, Take Action And Responsibility

For those who are living in what one describes as a developed country, we may take the following issue that I will be discussing for granted. You see, many of us fail to take notice or do not place great thoughts with regards to this matter, is that, having the ability and freedom to choose, is something that many consider as privilege.

Having options available to use and the freedom for one to choose from them is something that we make not take great emphasis upon, however they are many people who will envy this. To them, having the ability or the freedom to choose is worth much more to, than having wealth, especially in emotional terms.

Many will currently disagree with what I'm about to comment, but think about it, there are many people each day, due to poor family backgrounds, being the only breadwinner in the house, in developing or third world country who are sold into prostitution, forced into slave labour whether they are a child or an adult because they have no choice. Of course who would want to be in their situation, but the issue is that they have no other choices available to them.

On the other hand, they are those who maybe extremely rich, such as children whose parents are extremely wealthy. The problem is that although being rich means they could afford pretty much afford and choose anything that is materialistic; but they do not have the freedom to choose their own educational or career paths. Why?

The reason being that children, who are born into families that are considered as well off, are constantly under pressure to perform and achieve the best grades.

Their parents also believed that private education is the best for them, and they must also study a degree in the professional sector such as law, accountancy, medical, science etc… so that it does not ruin the family's reputation of being middle or upper class in society.

Whilst on top of this, they must also learn a form of musical instrument, or enjoy the sports that they do such as golf, polo etc. and to only socialise with those in the same class of society as them.

The problem lies with that the children may not enjoy any of this, they may not enjoy learning to play the piano or the violin, or they may not want to study law, medical science, and prefer to study engineering, technology or computing, however because they are forced by parents who strictly control their educational and career path, they have no option other than accept it.

Much to my surprise is that although society's mentality has evolve where one is allowed to choose, the above mentality of parents controlling a kids options of education and career choices doesn’t just apply to those who are wealth.

The same mentality also applies still parents who aspire their child to be successful and famous, and a prime example is there are many traditional Asian parents who still regard the above mindset is the correct path for a child to become adulthood.

They believe that a child must follow their own dream of that the child must study a subject of which career is regarded as highly professional and well paid, drive lavishly expensive cars and makes them feel proud, that everyone will talk about how clever or intelligent their sons or daughter are, with many generations following the same example.

My aunt, uncles and cousins are a clear example of this previous mindset, which undoubtedly now is backfiring on them.

By all means, this is not a definitive description that every children born into wealthy household or parents, who have the financial capabilities that other parents envy of, act in such a way or exert such a control over their child’s life. There are always exceptions.

Same applies with Asian parents, with my parents being a clear example. They let me and my younger brother choose the education institute we wanted to study at, as well the course we wanted to study.

One major difference that I must highlight is we certainly did not start off with being wealthy at all, unlike my aunts, uncles, cousins.

In fact my parents at first had to scrape by to make ends meet, they both worked and when I was born, we lived in rented accommodation and I didn’t have any toys at all. Any toys I did have were either donated or were gifts from relatives, so there certainly any choice element there.

Most of the time though, my mum, who decided to take time off work to look after me, would take me and we would walk up to the local town to look at the toys in the high street stores. I would probably have a touch, a feel of them, but we never bought any of them.

Then a few years later, my younger brother arrived. Things were slightly better, my parents managed to save a deposit to buy their first home with the aided help of my dad's employer too. Of which we still live in today, but still, it wasnt exactly brilliant at that time.

However, we did at least started to have a choice, even though they might be minor things such as what birthday cake I wanted. To me at that time, it was wonderful; it was the first time I ever got to choose something that wasn’t already pre-chosen fir me.

Thus from a very early age, we always believed in keeping a low profile, being modest, taught that we must work hard. We certainly do not take for granted of the things we now own, partly because what my parents have achieved today all started from absolute nothing.

And finally, there are those who have far too many choices that they simply do not know what to choose and they misuse the freedom of choice by either being greedy and having every option available or simply they can decide what to choose, and so they spend hours, days, weeks, months or even years deciding.

Worse of all is that, if you were to present them with orienteering challenge or an challenge of any other sort, of which they were the leader, chances are that you would either get lost, or you would simply never ever start because they couldn't make their minds up on which direction to travel towards.

The point is that it is these type of people who further progress to developing an behaviour and mentality of being indecisive which can be considered as verging on dangerous, in terms of that nothing will ever be the same and that it can be extremely stressful for them and others around them, if they cannot decide on what their next action will be.

Not only that, when they are presented with a choice which is critical, life threatening or could have a profound outcome, they will either fear from choosing or they will simply misuse their power of choice, which would could have potential disastrous consequences.

Additionally, everything they do, they will always ask for someone

else’s opinions which mean they would rather conform to what others tell them to do and would render them in a position where the possibility of attaining one true potential success is significantly harder.

Or to put bluntly, if you lack the ability to decide or that you are indecisive when approaching decision, then you need to evaluate yourself seriously, because what that tells me and many others is that you are probably one of those people who jump on the band wagon for success, a person who dabbles their feet here and there, trying various ideas to attain success, and a person who may also be lacking in confidence and a compass direction of where one wants to reach or achieve in life.

Furthermore, the success that you will achieve in such a position is the only ones that people help decide for you.

If you ever want to be truly successful, then you must first understand that one must possess the ability to decide, take action and responsibility upon chosen option and that you need to stop being indecisive, in order to attain the true maxima of the success you actually really desire and want to achieve.

Commitment - Is It Key To Creating the Life You Want

From a young age, we learn to be wary of commitment. After all, it can lead to all manner of unwelcome obligations. How else did we get stuck with playing a boring game or with the torment of being polite to an unwelcome visitor?

When we leave childhood behind, we discover that commitment can bring bigger self-sacrifices. It can develop into an inescapable sense of duty or even complete overwhelm. Commitment can get a bad name.

Yet commitment is a positive ingredient when it comes to shaping your future the way you want it. Commitment makes the difference between good intention and real action.

We can all have dreams that say just that - dreams. There is a world of difference between having an interest in something and being committed to it. As Mark Forster points out in 'Do It Tomorrow' - "Most people have a collection of unrelated interests, and, of course, one interest keeps getting in the way of another. There is no real upper limit to the number of things that someone can be interested in. Nothing very much is likely to come of any of them unless interest turns into commitment".

The dictionary defines commitment as a pledge or promise. You can make a pledge to yourself to act on what is important to you: a dream, a project, a relationship. When you commit like this, you stay faithful to the promise you have made to yourself and there is less room for distraction.

However, time is finite which means that you can only have a limited number of commitments at one time. Making a commitment to something inevitably means avoiding anything else that conflicts with that commitment. This can involve some tough choices, yet they are essential if you are going to make progress.

Be careful then what you commit to. When you are invited by a friend, colleague or family member to make a commitment, before agreeing take a look at the impact it will have elsewhere. The overwhelm that many people suffer is largely down to over-commitment. A recent coaching client described it as 'spinning plates' - as soon as one plate was attended to, he had to rush off to keep another spinning, then another and so on until he was back at the first or a plate came crashing to the floor!

Real progress depends on the balance between the commitments you make and the commitments you don't make. So how about making this practical?

Consider a potential commitment you might make:

1. What would you need to start doing to make the commitment?

2. What would you need to stop doing to make the commitment?

3. As a result of your answers above, what is the 'cost' of making the commitment?

4. What is the benefit of making the commitment?

5. Do you wish to go ahead and make this commitment?

A useful check is to ask yourself how often you say 'No' to invitations to commit. If you rarely use that word, it may mean you are over-committing.

The Three Big Myths About Hypnosis

It is a commonly held belief that hypnosis involves 'mind control' or the sight of people behaving un self-consciously up on a stage. Right?

Wrong. This is an image that has grown because 'stage' hypnosis has become popular for its performance and entertainment value.

As Seinfeld would say: " not that there's anything wrong with that".

But for practical applications and benefits to you as a potential user of either hypnosis or self-hypnosis, it hardly inspires confidence in what are really simple techniques, if you think you will end up acting like a chook or being amorous to perfect strangers as a result of a stage hypnotist, who is really an illusionist after all and a performer providing entertainment value, not therapeutic benefits!

Myth number one: That hypnosis is coercive by nature. That is, that using or being influenced by hypnosis will overcome your will power or exert some sort of mind control over you.

Changed behavior via hypnosis is actually thought to involve a process in some way not significantly separable from what a person's normal functioning is. In other words, the behavior change is in some ways a variation on that person's normal behavior, not completely different from it at all.

For example, if a person was not inclined to steal, as part of his or her usual behavior, then hypnotic suggestion cannot be made to convince him or her by unconscious suggestions,to start stealing things.

Myth number two. That hypnotic suggestions containing such things as subliminal messages are commonly used as part of therapy.

Carefully applied positive hypnotic techniques that enable beneficial behavior changes to occur, should allow the individual to apply his or her moral compass, I believe, to filter out what is not acceptable to that person's values.

Subliminal messages are set below the conscious levels of awareness of people and these sorts of stimuli are pitched at a level of presentation that is too fast, too quiet or buried in other sounds and so they cannot be consciously detected and processed.

Hypnosis should be ethically applied and with the consent of the individual. If messages are not able to be filtered, then this decision process by the individual cannot occur.

Hence, subliminal message are banned from media such as television, so people can make their own minds up consciously, if they want a certain product or to take a particular action knowingly, and not without their conscious consent.

Myth number three. That hypnosis can cure even unwilling patients.

Some not so intelligent proponents of hypnosis make wild claims that hypnosis is the be all and end all to whatever ails you.

In reality, it is one of a number of effective therapies that offer substantial benefits, providing that the subject of the therapy is a willing participant in the process, as relaxation and mind focusing are important to the success of any hypnosis intervention.

Forced hypnosis or attempts at doing so are not only morally and ethically wrong, but ineffective as well due to the above factor; a willing participant able to focus and relax his or her mind will benefit from subtle changes in behavior, given time to assimilate the benefits of change.

Have Faith In Yourself

A wise man had once told that what you think you are not is what holds you back and not what you are. To go out of the way and do a task better than needed requires a tremendous sense of self-belief. Those who don't risk it can't whisk it. Those who don't don't matter, as they get lost in oblivion. Those who take risks as inevitable and unavoidable get the prizes. To err is human. Every error is just one more example of what to do or not to do, to be successful. You cannot learn certain things in life without doing them wrong a few times.

If you always act cautious and don't do something for fear of being wrong, you won't reach far.

Winners know that they must lose sometimes to and they lose gracefully. Each defeat and each block is another stepping stone for them to climb yet higher on the mountain of fortune. Those who look high up the summit and get disheartened by the effort required always hesitate at things in life.

To be a winner, trust yourself. Going through troubles helps you assess your strength. It's an adventure filled with barriers and obstacles. You will lose some and win others. Just rise with each fall and push further. With each such heave you will grow stronger and stronger. You will become an expert and then such problems will become easy as flicking dust off your shoulder.

Winners stand resolute in face of intense opposition. Be brave because life is too short to worry about everything. Take risks and learn things. Unless you go out there how will you ever know if you could or could not have made it?

Tenacity and strength of resoluteness is one thing that determines winners and losers. Once focused, the winner never gets distracted and always works towards goals. They work when required and need not focus on the task all the time. Little is enough, at a time. With little done each time and each day, you can get very ahead. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Know that you can, if you believe and have faith, you will never question circumstance or your abilities, but always trudge on through even the muck. The best are there because they worked harder than others. It takes a lot to be the best and beat the rest... If success were easy everyone would be unsuccessful as everyone would be the same. Test yourself and know your aptitude, set realistically assessed goals and then do everything necessary to achieve them. Keep rowing whether the tide is in favor or against and you will cross the biggest oceans.

The only thing sometimes between winning and losing is that winners know they can win. It is amazing but true, when you know you can, you just do it. Never quit, never bow down to adversity, never compromise, make the required sacrifices, put in the effort, time and money and you will surely be there. The winners got where they are because they fought harder than others, they beat everyone else also wanting the spot and now can enjoy the fruits of their labor. Look yourself honestly and decide which goals you can and should achieve. Winning is good but having just participated is important and also makes one a winner in a way. Every fall is another way of getting back up. Keep up the good work and persist on. As long as you put your mind to something, nothing is impossible. In fact nowadays they say that impossible is nothing. You can do anything you want, keep at it, don't give up. Start today and see for yourself.

Make Up Your Mind And Boost The Power Of Attraction

"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

Have you made up your mind to be happy no matter what? Have you made up your mind to be in vibrant good health, to enjoy amazing prosperity, to have fabulous relationships? I think Honest Abe would agree that, in addition to being as happy as they decide to be, most folks are also as wealthy as they decide to be, as healthy as they decide to be, and as fortunate as they decide to be. As you make up your mind to be and do and have whatever you desire, in accordance with the Law of Attraction, it will be yours!

Make Up Your Mind to Make Up Your Mind. Decide to decide. Amp up your power of attraction by making up your mind. Insist on absolute happiness and paradise health and it is. Make up your mind to feel good at all times. Your firm conviction to make your life the way you want it to be will begin the process of attracting and creating your ideal life.

You are the writer, director and star of the fabulous production called YOUR Life. You can be anything you want to be. Decide what you want and allow it to happen. Nothing feels better than getting absolute clarity about what you want and then watching your life unfold just as you dreamed it would be.

You Declare How It Will Be. How do you attract what you want? Start by filling in these blanks with your wildest dreams and stating with conviction:

I AM _____________________________________

I DO ______________________________________

I HAVE ___________________________________

As you vibrate with these desires, they will inexorably appear. The Modus Operandi of a Master of the Universe is to declare how it will be, thus employing the power of a made-up mind to bring it into reality.

You Feel the Way You Decide to Feel. I remember when I realized that I have the power to feel the way I decide to feel. One evening I was preparing to meet a friend for dinner and I was not feeling particularly well. Like a thunderbolt, this empowering realization came to me - I feel the way I decide to feel. As a Master of the Universe, I decide everything, including how I feel!

Test it yourself. For example, when you're feeling exhausted, instead of focusing on your lack of vigor, make up your mind to feel energized, rejuvenated, indefatigable. You'll be amazed at the infusion of Energy you get from focusing on what you want. You can consciously choose how you feel or you can unconsciously feel whatever comes to you through the influence of others, the media, or your own negative self-talk. Which do you prefer?

Employ the Power of a Made-up Mind. When you make up your mind to be and do and have whatever you desire, you are on track to create health, happiness, peace, and prosperity without limit. Here's how:

* Make up your mind about what you want and ignore all the voices (both internal and external) that try to discourage you from even trying.

* Make up your mind about what you want and become a vibrational match to your desire by arousing passion and enthusiasm.

* Make up your mind about what you want and focus on it with the certainty that you CAN have it.

* Make up you mind about what you want and trust that it's on its way to you.

As a Master of the Universe, your life unfolds in precisely the way you decide it will unfold. You are the decision-maker, the permission giver. As you make up your mind to enjoy paradise health, fulfilling relationships, and abundance of all kinds, you are literally attracting and creating the life of your dreams.

Understand Why New Year's Resolutions Don't Work And What To Do About It

It is estimated that over 80% of us make New Year's resolutions of some kind. Yet how many of these last until the end of January, or even until the Christmas decorations are put away?

Despite our best intentions many of our New Year's resolutions are doomed to fail from the outset. Here are the top five reasons why New Year's resolutions don't work and what you can do about them.

1. Low expectations, it's almost an unwritten law that resolutions don't work. Our friends, the media and society at large expect you to give up in the first week. It has become something of a standing joke. This low expectation gives you permission to fail. Therefore you don't fully commit and consequently fail to succeed.

2. Expressed in the negative Our New Year's resolutions are often expressed in negative terms for example, I'm going to give up smoking or I must lose weight. Our brains cannot think in negative terms without first picturing the opposite. Try NOT thinking about a piece of chocolate cake and you’ll see what I mean. Therefore by thinking about not eating or doing something, we first have to think about doing it and eventually the temptation becomes too great.

3. Unrealistic targets For example I'm going to the gym every day. A problem here is that it is too great a shift from coach potato to gym junkie. You may succeed for the first few days, then life gets in the way, or your muscles are so sore that you need a day off. The danger is once you break your promise to yourself and those around you; it becomes easier to break it again and again until you have forgotten where the gym is.

4. Insufficient Why's " Sometimes we set our resolutions to please others, or because we feel we should do or stop doing something. In order to push through the inevitable challenges of adapting our behaviour we need big enough reasons why. Sometimes it takes a health scare to dramatically alter our eating or lifestyle habits. Other times it takes the financial challenge of losing a job to galvanise us into taking action to find a better job or start a business.

5. Your Self Image To make an effective change on the outside we first need to change on the inside. Our current situation represents the cumulative effects of years of conditioning through our thoughts, beliefs and actions. Our self image acts like a thermostat to keep our results in line with our expectations. A major shift in our results first requires a major shift in our thoughts and beliefs. This involves the creation of a new self image, one who is the desired shape, level of fitness, income, or lifestyle. Processes such as positive affirmations and visualisation have been successfully used in the creation of a new self image.

Now you know why your New Year' resolutions have failed in the past you are better equipped to set some new goals. Examine what you want to achieve in each area of your life and then check them against the five steps above: Do you have low expectations? Only share your goals with trusted friends who will support you

Express your goals in positive terms. Rather than trying to lose weight for example, state your intention to reach a figure that feels appropriate to you. Are your goals attainable? Start by taking manageable steps, this will enable you to gain confidence and momentum. Break down your big goals for the year into smaller monthly or weekly objectives.

Are these really your goals? List the reasons why you want these. When you have sufficient power in your whys, you will have the momentum to achieve your goals.

Finally and perhaps most importantly, start visualising and vividly imagining yourself as already achieving the outcomes you desire. This will begin to imprint a new self image in your subconscious and in turn will affect your actions and ultimately your results.

This year you can supercharge your goal setting and achievement through the A Design for Life.

Personal Development - The Main Theme

I'm a big reader of personal development and self help books. The current book that I'm reading is an excellent book by Julia Cameron entitled the Artist Way, recommended by a friend. This book is filled with solid practical tips on how to reawaken your inner creative child. The book gets The Baker stamp of approval.

With that said, I believe that 80% of all personal development/self help books point to one common theme. So, obviously if this large of a percentage is the common theme, it would be really valuable for you to keep this idea in mind right?

Take A Step Back

Before, I go into what this common theme is, let's first take a step back. Why do a majority of people read a great valuable personal development/self help and then forget about this common overriding theme? Well, the main reason really is because people aren't passionate enough about their own personal development. They like to read books, get juiced up and leave it at that. There aren't real tangible results after reading the book because they aren't really passionate about their personal development. You see to be passionate about your growth, you will notice that in the books that you read there really is no way that you can miss this common overriding central theme found in the books.

The Select Few

I assume that most of you all reading these blogs, are not that group of people that take a really valuable book and forget the common theme. I would say that you are the select few that really care about your personal development growth, so much so that the common theme I'm about to tell you, you are already living. So congratulations on that. Congratulations on being that small percent that is passionate about their personal development and evolution. I respect people that come from a place of truth and honesty with where they are at in life, but truly make honest efforts to consitently try to learn and grow from reading books and applying principles to make their lives better.

The one common Theme Found in 80% of all Personal Development & Self Help Books is:

"Belief in yourself."

That's it. Belief in yourself. But, that is such a strong statement and a reoccurring idea we must all continually be reminded of though right? The reason is because we live in a very fast paced society. It is so fast that we forget our "why" we may lose track of our purpose for doing anything. But I'm hear to let you know that you have to continue to believe in yourself, no matter what challenge or obstacle you are currently facing. You see I love people. Some people are supportive with my dreams and some people just plain aren't supportive of my dreams. I truly appreciate and love all the support I continue to receive, and never take these people for granted.

But you know what keeps me going and pursuing my dreams? It's the fact that I believe in myself. Simple and plain. There is no other outside force, outside circumstance outside of me that will take that away. I know that if I don't believe in myself and my life's purpose, I can easily just slip into a comfort zone, where I don't grow and evolve as a human being.

That is the reason why 80% of all personal development and self help books stress this in their books in one form or another. They understood that from their perspective, it all begins and ends with you. You can't blame society, your parents, your friends, how you were raised, or your boss on why you aren't where you feel you need to be in your development. It begins and ends with an unwavering belief in yourself. You create the reality you choose to exist on. You create the change you want to see in the world. You create your wealth and your relationships with others.

You are the end all be all of your own journey. Don't let people take that from you. Hold strong to your belief and your purpose on this earth. You deserve every ounce of it. When you continue to operate in this manner, you will inspire and empower others to do the same. This is probably the most rewarding part. Believe in yourself, this allows others to believe in themselves.

I also want to mention, I have my very own personal development book for purchase. This book is a good guide to help you find that belief in yourself by moving inward for your own confidence and self image for a beyond successful life.

The Key To Personal Development Success

Author: Michael McGrath

Embarking on a personal development or self improvement program can be exciting and rewarding. However, many people try many different personal growth methods in an attempt to improve their life and although they gain much from their efforts they fail to reach their life goals. Self improvement and personal development can create disillusioned seekers or self improvement junkies (seeking that one program that will do it all) because they fail to deliver fully on their promises.

Have you recieved the results that you were promised from the personal development tool syou used.? Did you get the full benefit of the self improvement programs you diligently followed? If not take heart for I am going to share with you the reasons why and the solutions!

The great majority of personal development programs, CDs, techniques, books and seminars teach very valuable and life changing information. The methods they promote do work. It is unfortunate though that they are missing a very vital and essential truth. It is this missing information that is the key to achieving unparalleled success with these programs. This key is not only the launching pad for success and a guaranteed method which will allow you to gain anything you desire if it is put into practise but it is also the reason behind your failure because you have not known nor applied it before now!

Have you ever noticed that there are certain things in your life that seem to be on auto-repeat? You keep getting jobs that are unsatisfactory; have bad bosses; irritating co-workers; financial problems; painful relationships, etc?

Have you tried hard to change certain situations in your life just to have the same outcome every time no matter what actions you take?

The reason behind this phenomenon lies in your mind.

Anyone who has studied self improvement or personal development and even those of you who have merely touched on the subject will know that everything begins in the mind. Without the right mental attitude you can achieve nothing worthwhile in life. Nothing of major importance has ever been achieved without the achiever having had a clear mental image of the outcome already in mind before success ever came. This is where many people go wrong. They think that if they create a positive mental picture of what they want and then take actions to get it, everything will fall into place easily - they are missing the key!

The only reason people fail to achieve their goals is because of negative mental beliefs. Most times these beliefs are hidden deep in the subconscious mind. In order to achieve the success you desire it is necessary to evaluate your belief system; resurface these beliefs and then eliminate them!

By holding a strong image in your mind of what you want and backing that image with clear and purposeful action you begin to set in motion some very powerful universal forces that work to aid you in making that mental image solid in the real world. However, many times these mental images are hindered by the negative beliefs that you hold which are contrary to what you actually want. These beliefs are always active and running like computer programs in your subconscious mind ' sending out the opposite mental images to that of your desire.

It is imperative to your success to find and eliminate these negative programs. This is the whole point of personal development.

There are many great methods for eliminating negative programming. However, I have found that the hardest thing to do is not removing these negative beliefs but finding them in the first place. So this should be your first goal ' to seek out your negative programming. Before beginning this bare in mind that it doesn't matter how you got these beliefs, or who gave them to you. All you want to do is find them and remove them. Leave blame out of it!

Begin by creating a goal. Write it down as though it has already happened. Read this statement aloud and then close your eyes. Create as much positive emotion around this mental picture as you can. Now just enjoy this imaginary scene until you begin to have doubts that it is real. Take a blank piece of paper and on it begin to scribble down all the negative thoughts that enter your head. Don't judge them, suppress them or get annoyed at them, just let them flow.

Now once you have a list of all the negative thoughts connected to your goal you can begin to remove them.

Look over your list and analyse all the statements you produced. Really think about them. Are they true? Is there any basis for them? Evaluate each one in turn and think of ways to overcome each belief. There are hundreds of great self improvement tools designed to help you do this but here is a simple one to get you started.

Take one negative statement and think about what that means to you. Identify the underlying belief behind that thought. Is it a lack of self-worth, low self-confidence, insecurity, feeling not-good-enough or just a lame belief you picked-up from someone else that you have never given any real thought to?

Challenge the belief. Ask yourself questions every time you recall that belief. Question the authenticity of the belief. Identify the emotion that you feel when you think about that belief. Allow that feeling to fully surface. When you allow this to happen you will find that the negative emotions you are feeling get very strong just before they leave. When you allow the negative emotion, which is driving the negative belief, to fully express itself and dissipate you will find yourself much more positive and without the negative thoughts you had previously.

So everyday speak aloud your goal statement in the morning and visualize it as being reality. Evoke strong positive emotion around this image. Then, at night, repeat this procedure but use a blank piece of paper and write down all the negative thoughts that surface. Then take each one in turn and give it some real thought. Feel the negative emotions related to it and allow them to surface fully ' do not try to suppress them. Then allow them to fully express themselves in your mind and body and they will dissipate. This can be hard to do as we have been taught to suppress our emotions and have probably been doing it for many years. When you begin to feel the emotions getting stronger you will have a strong urge to suppress them but don't! When the negative emotions behind your beliefs are allowed to fully surface and express themselves they naturally dissipate. As they dissipate so do the thoughts and beliefs behind them.

You will find that you become much more positive in a very short time and find it much easier to achieve your goals.

Successful Personal Development Tips

Successful personal development will involve you in acquiring new knowledge and skills. This can be a daunting prospect when you're learning something completely new. Understanding the two different types of knowledge and how to use them will help you to accelerate your learning and develop the specific skills you need for success.

Napoleon Hill in his book "Think and Grow Rich" talks about two different types of knowledge - general and specific and the importance of specific knowledge for your successful. I'd like to take his idea and show you what both types of knowledge are and how they have their place in your personal development.

General knowledge

By general knowledge we mean not just the type of knowledge that will help you win a general knowledge quiz, usually a collection of random facts about all sorts of aspects of modern life! General knowledge also means knowledge that is high level and not specific enough to be translated into detailed action plans.

Ultimately, you will succeed by taking specific actions which will require specific knowledge, however there is a place for general knowledge in your personal development.

When you approach a new area of personal development, you know little or nothing about it. You may be tempted to rush in pick up some specific knowledge from any source you can find and start spending time, energy and money taking action.

Can you see the danger in this approach?

Yes, you are moving forward without a plan, a clear sense of direction or even knowing whether what you are doing is the best way to get you where you want to go.

This is where you need to acquire some general knowledge about the area you are interested in. Just enough to "get a feeling" for what really matters, how other people are being successful, what the latest tools are. Once you've done this you can select a specific course of action, put together a plan and TAKE ACTION!

The danger with general knowledge pointed out by Napoleon Hill is that you can end up collecting it for its own sake - this does not benefit you at all, you can end up wasting your time and energy and procrastinating. You need to learn through experience just how much general knowledge you need and learn just that much and not a bit more.

Specific knowledge

Specific knowledge is just what is says - specific facts and information that you can turn into actions. Specific knowledge is the most valuable sort of knowledge when you want to succeed in a certain area. Many areas of specific knowledge are not taught in any school or university - you have to learn them from your own or other's experiences.

However, without specific knowledge that you can use to take actions that will take you to your destination, you will not succeed. Having the best and most appropriate specific knowledge for the area in which you want to succeed is the most valuable asset you can own. To understand the importance of specific knowledge, you only have to look at the successful people who failed in the education system because they didn't get enough general knowledge.

The personal development tip from this article is that you need to understand the difference between general and specific knowledge and know you to use them as appropriate. By using a two tier approach to obtaining knowledge and understanding the importance of both general and specific knowledge you can maximise your chances of success through personal development.
